Incorporating Botox Into Your Regular Beauty Routine

Botox® is widely known as a fast, easy, and minimally invasive treatment for pesky frown lines and crows’ feet. Men and women have been using this treatment for years as a part of their regular skincare and beauty routine.

But what does it mean to incorporate Botox into your beauty maintenance? How often can you get it? Are there any side effects of long-term Botox use?

Here at Orchid Medical Spa in Edmonds, Washington, Dr. Shahriar Khezri and her highly skilled team are happy to answer these questions and others at your first Botox appointment. But if you’re looking for a crash course on Botox, you’ve come to the right place!

How Botox works

Botox is an injectable treatment that can minimize frown lines and crows’ feet. It’s made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin that temporarily paralyzes muscles, smoothing out wrinkles for up to six months.

Thanks to these injections, your muscles don’t receive signals from nerves telling them to contract. Without the muscles contracting, your skin stays smoother and younger-looking, rather than wrinkled.

What to expect from Botox

In some cases, people may get Botox for a special event, such as a wedding or a high school reunion.

In other cases, however, many clients opt to make Botox a part of their regular beauty routine. Three to six months after your first Botox session, when the effects of Botox start to fade, you can have follow-up treatments to keep the look alive.

Long-term effects of Botox

A recent study that was published in the medical journal Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology found that, while there are some rare side effects of using Botox in the long-term, the treatment is a “good and safe medicine to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles” over time.

In most cases, people who get Botox experience nothing more than a little pain at the injection site as well as some swelling and redness. In some cases, drooping brows or eyes might occur, but this is almost always temporary.

In general, those who use Botox as part of their regular beauty routine experience little to no side effects. This is hardly a surprise because when it’s used properly, Botox is an effective solution for wrinkles that is also extremely safe. Botox also gained FDA approval in 2002, which means there have been nearly two decades of research on its use.
