Radio frequency (RF) microneedling, how is it different than regular microneedling and its benefits

Microneedling:

This treatment has been around for a long time and its results are well proven. The process includes using a device which has multiple needles that puncture the skin superficially (usually at the depths around 0.25mm to 1mm or more) to stimulate your own collagen production, revealing tighter, toned, more resilient skin.

Depending on the specific needs of the patient, often a supplemental solution is added to the Microneedling procedure with enhanced results due to a deeper penetration of the product. These can include numerous products from vitamins to hyaluronic acid to platelet-rich-plasma, thus enhancing the efficacy of the treatment.

RF microneedling:

Combining radio frequency with microneedling will result in more profound and enhanced result due to deeper penetration of the needle, creating a micro wound response with the radiofrequency which heats the water in the dermis, resulting stimulation the fibroblasts, encouraging the body’s own collagen production.  A great choice for more immediate results in the fading of acne scars, stretch marks, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles – overall tightening and toning of the skin.

RF microneedling device is similar to basic microneedling; however, the needles are insulated (except for the tips). When the needle penetrates the skin the device transmits the heat through the tip of the needles causing "tiny" thermal damage deep in the skin, triggering more collagen production, over time presenting you with a more toned, youthful appearance.

Each area is treated with three passes, the depth of the needle is different in each pass, moving from deep to superficial, resulting a profound improvement.

What to expect during the appointment?

After you have completed your health history online and check in with reception, we will guide you to the treatment room. After we cleanse your skin a topical numbing cream is applied, after roughly 45 minutes the numbing cream is removed, another thorough cleanse and you’re ready for the procedure.  There is a slight heat sensation with the pulse, along with a mild ‘prick’; mouth area, bony areas of the face may feel slightly more sensation.  After the treatment your skin feels “plumper” and tighter.  Normal to have a bit of erythema or swelling as well as a pinkish appearance for 1-3 days depending on the depth of the procedure, skin type – minimal downtime.

There will be a noticeable improvement within a week and continued collagen production over the course of 6 months.  This treatment is safe for most skin types and encouraged to be repeated every 6 weeks in a 3-5 treatment package.
