Tattoo removal

Common reasons for getting a tattoo include wanting to feel unique and independent as well as seeking to highlight a certain experience. Over time, however, life and opinions can change and that tattoo that seemed like such a great idea 10 years ago might not seem so great.

Some people may think a tattoo is permanent and they’re stuck with it. However, with a skilled aesthetic expert and the proper equipment, you can lose that reminder of the past for good and embark on an all-new you.

The process

Tattoos can be removed using laser energy. At Orchid Medical Spa, we employ the Spectra laser on a Q-switched setting to direct energy at the tattoo in incredibly short, quick pulses that last just billionths of a second.

These pulses smash the ink into tiny fragments that disperse and then are flushed out of the body in the weeks following the procedure.

While this innovative laser treatment is strong enough to break up the ink, it doesn’t hurt the skin around the tattoo because the pulses are so fast.

This means there are only minimal side effects. It also results in no more discomfort than a snapping or stinging sensation. Some people tolerate the feeling well while others opt for a topical anesthetic.

Treatment length and details

Tattoo removal specifics depend on several factors but likely require multiple sessions spread out over time, with 4-8 weeks between each procedure. We begin with a consultation to understand your goals, determine the number of treatments, and explain the process.

How many sessions are needed typically depends on the size, location, and depth of the tattoo. The kind of ink and color(s) used also affect the removal process.
