Dermal Filler Q & A

What is dermal filler?

Dermal filler is gel like material injected underneath the skin in variable depths to add volume to the areas which have lost their fullness due to the process of aging.

What is dermal filler made of?

FDA approved Dermal fillers are made of different materials and can be categorized as Hyaluronic acid (HA), Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA), Poly L-lactic acid, Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and finally autologous material (Fat, Plasmagel, Biofiller etc.).

Which filler is better for me?

With so many fillers in the market it is hard to determine which one is better without an expert’s opinion, but to answer that question: it depends on the treatment area. Since fillers have different consistency and require different depth of injection, we pick which one gives you the best result during our extensive consultation and when we study your face.

What should I expect in the treatment day?

Dermal filler are non-surgical procedures and are very safe with the exception of certain allergies, medications you may take, or medical conditions you may have. We start with obtaining an extensive medical history, then we go over the procedure and ask you to read the consent forms thoroughly and sign them.

Next step is preparing the injection sites and based on the area we want to treat, you may require topical anesthesia or a nerve block for optimal comfort. Then we wash the area with alcohol and mark the targeted areas and inject the filler.

After the session you will go home with an ice pack and instructions for after care. We will be in contact with you the first couple of days to make sure there are no concerns and that you are safely recovering.

How long do fillers last?

This really depends on the area injected, type of the fillers, and many other factors. They usually last about one year more or less.

How do I pick the right provider?

You need to make sure your injector knows facial anatomy and is familiar with fillers side effect and how to treat them.

What is Biofiller?

Biofiller is a dermal filler made from your own blood and its preparation is very similar to PRP extraction, to be more precise, biofiller is a by-product of PRP extraction.

After spinning the blood and separating the plasma from the red blood cells, we separate the PRP part of it and the rest of the plasma (which is called Platelet poor plasma or PPP) is processed in a special machine- heating it to make it coagulate like a gel. We then inject that to the areas of need to get the volume effect.

One advantage of Biofiller is that since it is from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction to it.

Another benefit of the Biofiller is that it contains fibrinogen. Fibrinogen works as a substrate for collagen and promotes your body to build more collagen in the treated area and enhance the volume effect when it is injected. This way we trigger your own body’s healing mechanism (unlike Hyaluronic acid which just gives volume effect) and promote more collagen production. This results in a  better and more natural effect.*
